Saint Leo, Fla. (April 17, 2007) – The Saint Leo University baseball team (24-20) fell 7-4 to visiting Florida Gulf Coast University (31-12) on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Southard Stadium.

Ricky Nolan (Jr., Seminole, Fla.) led the Lions at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.  The teams combined to hit six home runs with the Eagles homering five times and all but one of the visitor’s runs coming by virtue of the long ball in the win.

Gulf Coast jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the third, as an RBI double by Casey Coleman was followed by a two-run homer by Josh Upchurch.  The Lions got one run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Eric Spicer (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.).

FGCU made it a three-run lead again in the fourth with another solo homer, and a pair of solo shots in the sixth made it a 6-1 lead.  SLU’s Yunior Tabares (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) brought the Lions back to within three with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.

The teams each scored single runs in the seventh inning with Gulf Coast connecting on its fifth homer of the night to provide the final margin.

The Lions return to Sunshine State Conference play this weekend when they travel south to Miami Shores, Fla. to face Barry University in a three-game series.  The teams will meet on Friday at 6:00 p.m. with a noon doubleheader slated for Saturday.
