Saint Leo, Fla. (April 14, 2007) – The Saint Leo University baseball team (24-19, 9-9 SSC) was swept by visiting No. 10 Florida Southern College (32-11, 8-7 SSC) on Saturday in a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader.

The Mocs rallied to take two out of three in the weekend series by winning game one 7-3 and then edging the Lions 3-2 in the seven-inning second contest.  A pair of big innings helped the visiting Moccasins to rebound from Friday night’s 3-0 loss in the opening game of the series.

In game one, FSC rallied from a run down with a five-run fifth inning and later added two more runs in the seventh to lead 7-1.  A late rally by the Lions included a two-run home run by Eric Spicer (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.), but t was not enough.

In the second game, Saint Leo scored single runs in the first and second innings to give starter Carter Clements (Jr., Eustis, Fla.) an early lead.  The opening run scored on a wild pitch with Jerry Gonzalez (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) delivering a sacrifice fly to score Jason Hamm (Fr., Tampa, Fla.) with the second run.

Clements was working a no-hitter in the fifth when Southern catcher David Golliner led off with a double.  He later scored on an RBI double by Fred Popp.  FSC third baseman Arden McWilliams then delivered a two run single to round out the scoring and give the Mocs the series win.

The Lions will remain at home to face Florida Gulf Coast University in non-conference action on Tuesday at Southard Stadium.  First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
