Lakeland, Fla. (April 3, 2007) – The Saint Leo University baseball team (20-17) fell 12-5 to No. 12 Florida Southern College (28-8) on Tuesday night in a non-conference game at Henley Field in Lakeland, Fla.

Saint Leo SS Jerry Gonzalez (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) went 2-for-5 in the game, including a lead-off home run in the first inning, which gave the Lions their only lead of the night.

After Gonzalez’s eighth homer of the year gave SLU a 1-0 lead, Florida Southern answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning.  The Lions rallied to tie the score with three runs in the second, but FSC regained its lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and added two more in the third.

The Lions made it a three-run game in the sixth, but the Mocs put the game out of reach with four runs in the seventh.

Saint Leo will return to Sunshine State Conference action this weekend, beginning an eight-game homestand with an SSC series against Lynn University.  The teams will play a single game Friday night (7:00 p.m.) before concluding the series with a Saturday doubleheader (1:00 p.m.).
