Saint Leo, Fla. (January 23, 2007) - The Saint Leo baseball team was ranked sixth in the Sunshine State Conference Pre-Season Baseball Poll, released recently by the SSC.
The Lions finished 2006 with a 32-23 record overall and a 12-12 mark in the league. Saint Leo was fourth in the SSC a season ago.
The University of Tampa, which claimed the 2006 Division II National Championship, was picked to repeat as conference champs. Tampa earned 14 of a possible 18 first-place votes in the pre-season poll. Florida Southern College received two first place votes and was picked to finish second.
Lynn University and Nova Southeastern University were picked in a tie for third place, while Barry University, recipient of the two remaining first place votes was chosen fifth. SLU, Rollins College, Florida Tech and Eckerd College rounded out the poll.
Saint Leo will open its 2007 season with a three-game series at Florida Tech on Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3. The two teams will play a single game on Friday (2:00 p.m.) before concluding the series with a doubleheader on Saturday (noon).
