Saint Leo, Fla. (December 19, 2006) – Saint Leo University head baseball coach Ricky Ware has announced the signing of infielder Anthony Santa during the NCAA Early Signing Period.

Santa is a standout infielder at local Land O’Lakes High School, and follows in the footsteps of his brother Jose who played two years for the Lions.  Anthony will conclude his playing career at Land O’Lakes this year before joining the Saint Leo baseball team in the 2008 season.

Last year, Santa was a First Team All-Conference and First Team All-County selection as a junior.  He led the county with a .479 batting average and totaled 46 hits, 43 RBI and scored 29 runs.  He had 13 doubles and six home runs a season ago and struck out only five times.

The Saint Leo baseball team will open its 2007 season with a three-game series at Florida Tech on Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3.  The two teams will play a single game on Friday (2:00 p.m.) before concluding the series with a doubleheader on Saturday (noon).
