SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released the 2018 Women's Tennis Regional Division II Year-End Awards on Tuesday highlighting two Saint Leo Lions. Marta Vicens Miquel was named the ITA South Region Rookie of the Year alongside of Andrada Gordan who was honored as the Most Improved Senior in the South Region.

Marta Vicens Miquel was nationally ranked by the ITA throughout her entire freshman campaign. The Port De Pollensa, Spain product registered first singles record of 15-9 during the 2018 season. In doubles, she recorded an overall 17-9 mark, earning a 3-2 first doubles record with Maja Pindelska and a 14-7 record with Andrada Gordan.  With Gordan, the duo went 2-0 at first doubles, 12-7 at second doubles.

"Marta had a tremendous year," said head coach Chad Berryhill.  "She stepped in right away as a freshman, holding down the top spot in our singles line-up. She prepares the right way, wants to win, and is always eager to learn ways to get better. I am excited to see how much Marta will improve over the course of her collegiate career."

Andrada Gordan closed out her career at Saint Leo posting a 16-5 singles record. Gordan grabbed a 3-0 record at fifth singles and 13-5 record at sixth singles for the Lions. Gordan partnered with Sophie Vlietstra snagged a third doubles 1-2 mark. She and Vicens Miquel worked together for the remainder of the season going 14-7.

"Andrada really embodied what it means to make the best of your senior year," explained Berryhill. "She transferred to Saint Leo for the 2018 season after recovering from an injury that took away two-seasons from her. She worked hard to get back on the court and enjoyed playing the game she loves. She really blossomed as a player and person as the season went on. I am very proud of her accomplishments."
