Women's Golf Heads to NCAA South Regional in Germantown, Tenn. May 7-9

Saint Leo will play as the no. 3 seed at the regional and will compete for a spot at the national championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – No. 4 Saint Leo women's golf has been selected for the 2018 NCAA Division II South Regional in Germantown, Tenn., as announced on Monday, April 30. The Lions will go into the NCAA postseason as the no. 3 seed and will be one of 12 teams competing at the Germantown Country Club on May 7-9, hosted by Christian Brothers University.
 
The Lions look to improve on their placement a year ago where the Green and Gold took fifth out of 12 teams with a 930 (+66) overall.
 
Saint Leo will be one of seven Sunshine State Conference schools competing at the South Regional, including six of the top seven seeds. Receiving automatic bids to the south region where league champions from the SSC, Conference Carolinas, Gulf South Conference, Peach Belt, and the South Atlantic Conference.
 
As the no. 3 seed, Saint Leo will play the first two rounds with overall no. 1 seed Nova Southeastern and No. 2 Barry where the rest of the pairings are no. 4 Flagler, no. 5 Lynn and no. 6 Florida Southern; no. 7 Rollins, no. 8 Wingate, no. 9 Lee; no. 10 Florida Tech, no. 11 Lenoir-Rhyne and no. 12 Limestone.
 
Six individuals were selected to compete at the South Regional where SSC for Tampa received one individual bid in Kiira Riihijarvi, as the no. 3 individual. Riihijarvi will be joined by no. 1 Paloma Vaccaro (West Florida), no. 2 Megan Sabol (North Georgia), no. 4 Franziska Bremm (West Georgia), no. 5 Elizabeth England (Carson-Newman) and no. 6 Dominkia Czudkova (Lincoln Memorial).
 
There are four super regional tournaments being played across the country next week, with 12 teams and six additional individuals competing in each of them. The top three teams from each super regional, along with the top three golfers not with one of those teams, advance to the NCAA Division II National Finals in Houston, Texas, May 16-19.
 
The championships will be held May 16-19 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas. The number of participants that qualify for the finals is 72.
 
Earlier this season, Saint Leo traveled to the Christian Brothers' Buccaneers Spring Classic at the Germantown Country Club, where the Green and Gold took second of the six teams with a team score of 925 (+61). Amanda Jakobsson tied for first at 229 (+13) where Synne Lauritzen finished three strokes off her teammate at 232 (+16), finishing in sixth. Izzy Lawrence carded a 233 for seventh place, with Vilde Eriksen and Isabel Nesteus tied for ninth at 236.
 
The Lions enter the NCAA postseason after taking sixth at the SSC Championships at 914 (+50). Jakobsson paced the Green and Gold in Boca Raton with an eighth place finish at 226 (+10).
 
Head Coach Lyndsey Bevill will select her lineup in the coming days.
