SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's lacrosse team received the No. 6 ranking in Monday's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll release for the second-straight week. The Lions had just one match this past week, an 11-10 thriller over Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins. Saint Leo was originally scheduled to take on fellow top-10 member Tampa this past Saturday but adverse weather forced the match to be postponed until Wednesday, April 18.
The Lions have found the back of the net 165 times this season led by
Kyle Pauwels' 36 tallies.
Jake Gilmour leads the team with 52 points on the season including 24 goals and a team-high 28 assists. Pauwels is just behind Gilmour in the points department with 50 after adding up his 36 goals and 14 assists.
Charlie Kurtenbach is not far behind with 46 points on the year on 25 goals and 21 assists.
Jordan Williams has collected a team-best 44 groundballs this season with
Julian Taylor (33) and Kurtenbach (30) sitting in second and third. Defensive specialist
Ethan Ticehurst has a team-best 12 caused turnovers while faceoff specialist
Jordan Williams has won 114 of his 228 battles at the 'X'.
Goalkeeper
Thomas Tatarian was recently named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Rollins and enters the week with 142 saves and an 8.92 goals against average.
On Wednesday, April 11, Saint Leo travels to SSC opponent Florida Southern, who received votes in this week's USILA poll, before hosting Lynn Saturday, April 14 in the ESPN Division II Showcase contest which will be streamed live by ESPN from the campus of Saint Leo University.
