SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's lacrosse team maintained a No. 17 ranking in the US Lacrosse Division II poll released on Monday. Saint Leo recovered from a 12-6 loss to New York Institute of Technology with back-to-back victories on the road. The Lions battled for a 19-16 win at Young Harris on Saturday and overpowered Wingate 18-6 on Sunday. The 2-1 week raised the Lions' overall record to 9-2 before opening play in the Sunshine State Conference.
Leslie Ferguson scored five goals and dished out an assist at Wingate to become the newest Saint Leo season points record holder at 57 (45 goals, 12 assists). In addition, her five goals moved her season count to 45 goals, tying the single season goals record.
Sarah Pierson also clinched a school season record at Wingate. Pierson's six draw controls lifted her season count to 70, resetting the season draw control record. She broke the previous record of 69 set by Stephanie Marran in 2012 (14 games).
Saint Leo debuts its Sunshine State Conference season opener away at Embry-Riddle on Thursday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m.
