SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference named
Jaime Bueno the Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday for the second consecutive week, his fourth all-time. Bueno went 2-0 in no.3 singles including a three set match battle to lift No. 4 Saint Leo over No. 1 Barry on Saturday.
Jaime Bueno's three set no. 3 singles (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) win over No. 25 Daniel Ventura clinched a 5-4 win for No. 4 Saint Leo Men's Tennis Lions over No. 1 Barry Buccaneers on Saturday. Down 4-0 in set three, Bueno took a medical and recovered with six straight points, tipping the scale for the Lions. The upset captured the program's second win over a No. 1 ranked opponent within a week. On Saturday, March 17, the then No. 7 Saint Leo men's tennis team downed the then No. 1 West Florida Argonauts 5-4 in Pensacola, Fla. Saint Leo remains undefeated, raising its overall record to 12-0, 2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
Before his battle with Barry, he dished out a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 50 Washburn on Thursday.
On the season, Bueno is perfect in singles play with an 11-0 mark earning a no. 2 win and no. 3 10-0 mark. In doubles, Bueno enters the week 11-1. He and
James Defusto combined to grab a no. 3 victory. Bueno and partner
Willem Van Den Akker have compiled a 10-1 mark from a no.2 9-1 record and lone win at no.3.
Saint Leo will travel to Florida Tech on Tuesday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m. followed by two more road matches at Keiser and No. 3 Lynn over the weekend.
