SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) selected the Saint Leo tennis programs among the nation's top 25 NCAA Division II teams entering the 2018 season. Wednesday's national team rankings release named the Saint Leo men's tennis team seventh, and the women 24
th.
The men return three ITA All-Americans in
Jaime Bueno,
Thomas Grinberg, and
Vincent Suillerot. Senior
Jaime Bueno had a stellar junior season featuring multiple awards including College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American Third Team honors, ITA All-America – Singles (#17), ITA National and South Region Player to Watch, and First Team All-Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Singles.
Junior
Thomas Grinberg returns after a sophomore campaign showcasing ITA All-America – Singles (#5), ITA All-America – Doubles (#4), First Team All-SSC in Singles and Doubles for his No. 1 Singles going 6-1 in Sunshine State Conference play, before he finished the year with a 13-2 record. In addition, the Lions return junior
Vincent Suillerot, who was named ITA All-America – Singles (#16), ITA All-America – Doubles (#4) along with First Team All-SSC Doubles and Second Team All-SSC Singles.
The No. 24 Saint Leo women's tennis team returned sophomore
Kristyna Jurkova, 2017 Second Team All-SSC Singles, and welcome freshman
Marta Vicens Miquel. Vicens Miquel has already impressed viewers on the court during the individual fall season. On November 27, 2017, the ITA National Rankings listed Vicens Miquel No. 44 among individual postseason awards. Junior
Madeleine Gauthier also had a fantastic individual fall season, ranking No. 18 in the South Region on November 17, 2017.
The men's team will open its season at home against Gustavus Adolphus on February 8, starting at 3:00 p.m. The women host the State College of Florida in its season opener on February 10, starting at 11:00 a.m.
