SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo beach volleyball team, which was announced on May 25 to be the Lions' 20
th sport, held its first official practice. The Green and Gold kicked off its inaugural season with practice on January 10
th at the Saint Leo Beach Courts.
"The first practice is always a special day," Assistant Volleyball Coach for Beach Volleyball
Erik Peterson stated. "To have the opportunity to have a five court facility on campus is going to be a tremendous asset to us as we train for our first official NCAA competitions this spring."
The Lions' are now one of four Sunshine State Conference institutions to offer beach volleyball, joining Tampa and Florida Southern as the three newcomers and Eckerd. Saint Leo is scheduled to take on Florida Southern and Tampa this season.
Peterson added, "I am excited to continue to work on implementing & expanding our beach tactics and strategies. Today was a good measuring stick to see where we are and where we need to focus our improvement. We did some good things but we have a lot of good hard work in front of us."
Saint Leo kicks off the season officially on March 17 at Florida Southern for a tri-match with the Moccasins and Stevenson. The Lions and the Mustang's face off at 1 p.m. before the Green and Gold tango with SSC foe, Florida Southern at 3 p.m.
