SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo sophomore setter
Anna Garrett was tabbed to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-South Region team, announced Wednesday by the committee.
Garrett, who surpassed 1,000 assists this season, has paced the Lions all year in the middle dishing out a season total of 1,013 assists. Garrett has picked up 198 digs on the year while adding 67 kills and 24 service aces. Garrett averages 9.47 assists per set. Heading into the weekend, the Merritt Island, Fla. native, ranks sixth among Saint Leo All-Time leaders in career assists with 1,707. Garrett trails Ashlee Hodgskin for fifth place by eight assists (1,715).
"As a staff, we are proud of Anna for being named All-Region by the AVCA," Director of Volleyball
Sam Cibrone stated. "It's a great thing for her to be recognized by the rest of the nation. We run a diverse offense and for our hitters to all be around 200 kills, Anna did a great job sharing the ball and allowing us to be in the position we are in."
On the AVCA All-South Region team, Garrett was one of two sophomores to be named to the team while she was one of nine players from the Sunshine State Conference, including one of three setters on the regional team. The honor is the first of her career and was the lone representative from the Green and Gold. Garrett adds her AVCA regional honor to her All-SSC Second team honors.
The players selected to the All-Region teams will go on to the AVCA All-America ballot.
The Lions return to action as the No. 5 seed in the NCAA South Region Tournament in Lakeland on Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. against No. 4 North Alabama.
