EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Saint Leo women's cross country came away with its best finish in program history, led by
Colett Rampf's eighth-place showing, in Saturday's women's 6K race at the 2017 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships at Angel Mounds State Historic Site.
The Lions finished 21st overall out of 32 teams with 555 points. Saint Leo's previous best finish came last season at the Lions' home circuit at The Abbey Course, when the Green and Gold placed 25
th.
Rampf completed the 6K course in 21:08.1, and dashed across the finish line just one-tenth of a second ahead of Adams State's Eilish Flanagan. She was seven-tenths of a second behind the seventh place runner, Aneta Konieczek from Western State.
The eighth-place result earned Rampf All-America honors for the third consecutive season.
Junior
Alyssa Bayliff finished 72nd overall, 62nd in points, with a time of 22:12.5, after jumping up nine spots in the final kilometer of the race.
Junior
Laura Tobin crossed the line 155th overall in 23:04.6, and was 132nd in points, while senior
Lauren Csubak placed 164th overall, 140th in points, with a time of 23:12.6. Junior
Noemi Anaya rounded out the list of scoring runners for the Lions in 238th place, 213th in points, with a time of 25:07.6.

Haley Roussell and sophomore
Fatima Abu-Rumman were the sixth and seventh runners across the line for Saint Leo. Roussell was 241st overall in a time of 25:20.9, while Abu-Rumman was 245th after crossing in 26:24.6.
Adams State won the 2017 Division II team title with 126 points, beating out the University of Mary with 137 points.
Alaska-Anchorage senior Caroline Kurgat took individual first place honors with a time of 20:32.3, finishing 19.8 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, Walsh University's Sarah Berger.
