Megan Hinners joined the Saint Leo Department of Athletics in August of 2011.  She serves as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and will be helping with the Lions’ media and marketing efforts.

Prior to Saint Leo, Megan spent four years as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at fellow Sunshine State Conference school Rollins College where she was the primary contact for women’s soccer as well as men’s and women’s lacrosse.  Using that knowledge, she will help cover the Lions’ women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s swimming and women’s golf.

Megan graduated from Roanoke College in the spring of 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Concentration in Communications. Upon graduation, she went on to work at the Institute for International Sport in Kingston, R.I., where she was involved with various projects such as the Rhode Island Scholar Athlete Games, Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame, New England Basketball Hall of Fame, the Renaissance Games, National Sportsmanship Day, the launch of the Hall of Fame Press Publishing Company, and the 2006 World Scholar-Athlete Games. After completion of her time at the IIS, she moved to the Central Florida area in order to pursue a career in Athletic Communications.

Growing up in Amherst, N.H., Megan admits that she was not always passionate about athletics. For ten years, she studied classical ballet under the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, rigorously training for yearly examinations that would test knowledge, performance skills, and proper ballet technique. After joining her middle school’s inaugural field hockey team in eighth grade, and she soon found herself diving head first into athletics. After persuading her parents to let her pick up a lacrosse stick the following spring, her passion for sports was born. She became a three sport athlete upon entering high school, playing field hockey, lacrosse, and competing on the Nordic ski team, captaining all three teams during her senior year.

As a three year varsity starter for her field hockey team, Megan earned team, state, and regional honors throughout her career. She was also an influential member of her high school’s Nordic ski team. In the 1998 and ’99 seasons, she earned positions on the New Hampshire J-II team as one of the top 20 female skiers in the state within her age bracket. During her senior year, she helped her team win their school’s first Nordic Skiing State Championship title in both the relay and overall events.

Out of all of her athletic accomplishments, Megan was truly at home on the lacrosse field. As a four year varsity starter, she earned team, state, and regional honors throughout her career and landed a position on the Upper New England Futures team after her junior year, allowing her to play in some of the top recruiting tournaments in the country. Megan signed on to play lacrosse at Roanoke, where she was a four year starting midfielder and two year captain for the Maroons. She was also the team representative for the Student Athlete Advisory Council, holding leadership positions within the organization all four years, and acting as President during her senior year.

She currently resides in Wesley Chapel and Casselberry, Fla.
