Smith joined a Lions' basketball program that saw much success during the previous two years. During the 2012-13 season alone, the Lions made their first trip to the Sunshine State Conference Championship game. In her first full season with Saint Leo, the Lions turned in their best season in program history, posting a record 20-10 record, during the 2013-2014 campaign, and advancing to their first-ever NCAA Division II Tournament.

Though new to the coaching sphere, Smith is very familiar with the game of basketball. During her two seasons with the USF Bulls, Smith was named Defensive MVP and selected to the All Big-East Second Team in 2013. In addition, her leadership skills earned her a spot as a team captain during her senior season.

Prior to her experience at USF, Smith was a member of the Gulf Coast Community College team in Panama City, Fla. In two seasons with the junior college Smith's team won back-to-back conference championships and won the 2010 Junior College National Championship. In 2010, Smith was also named to the Junior College National All-Tournament Team.

The Lakeland, Fla. native also spent time as a basketball trainer and camp counselor for numerous organizations in the Tampa Bay area.

Smith earned her bachelors degree in Arts and Sciences from the University of South Florida in May of 2012.
