SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men’s tennis player Matt Nicholson-Lewis has been named Saint Leo Athlete of the Week, for the period ending April 22.

In total, the sophomore posted a pair of singles victories at the 2012 Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championships, in addition to one doubles win.

The Cambridge, England native registered his singles first win of the week against Florida Southern’s Emanuel Lueber, dumping his opponent in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-4. He bookended his singles matches with the most impressive performance of his career, a consecutive-set win over Rollins’ No.6-ranked Jeff Morris, 6-3, 6-1. The victory helped propel the Lions to their first-ever defeat of the Tars.

Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier also teamed to upend the Florida Southern duo of Ivan Marevic and Jorge Gutierrez, 8-5.

This is Nicholson-Lewis’ first Saint Leo Athlete of the Week award.

Nicholson-Lewis and the rest of the Lions now wait seeding for the NCAA South Region Tournament which is set to begin on Sunday, April 29.
