Saint Leo Sees Record-Breaking 120 Student-Athletes on Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Lions Add another Program Best to Already Long List of Accolades for 2013-14 Year

COMPLETE RELEASE OF SUNSHINE STATE CONFERENCE SPRING COMMISSIONER'S HONOR ROLL

WINTER PARK, Fla.  (June 20, 2014) -  The Saint Leo Department of Athletics is proud to announce a record number of 120 student-athletes named to the Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which was announced Friday.

“I am extremely proud of the academic performance of our student-athlete this year,” said Saint Leo Director of Athletics Francis X. Reidy.  “We enjoyed out best athletic and academic year in school history because of the commitment of our coaches, student-athletes and staff to living our values each and every day.”

This marks the highest number of Saint Leo student-athletes to earn recognition on the spring honor roll in program history.  Adding to an already long list of achievements for the 2013-14 academic year, the Green and Gold saw a total of 174 student-athletes on the Commissioner’s Honor combined.

To be eligible for the Spring SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s rowing, baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse were eligible for the honor roll.

In total, the Sunshine State Conference saw a record number of 956 student-athletes named to the SSC Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2014 spring semester, announced Friday by Commissioner Ed Pasque.  A total of 133 student-athletes carried a perfect 4.0 gpa.

“Our student-athletes continue to prove themselves in the classroom year after year,” Commissioner Pasque said. “With the increase in the total number of student-athletes on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll this year, it again shows the hard work and dedication they are putting in the classroom.”

Having won 87 Division II National Championships, the SSC’s student-athletes have proven to be successful in the classroom. For the seventh-straight year, the SSC led all 24 Division II conferences with an Academic Success Rate of 86 percent.
