Trio of Lions Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s At-Large First Team Honors

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Three male student-athletes earned College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men’s At-Large First Team honors, it was announced Saturday. Men’s Golfer Nick Brothers, Men’s Lacrosse player Matt Obermeyer, and Men’s Tennis player Matt Nicholson-Lewis each earned the distinct accolade for the first time in their careers.

Brothers, a Crystal River, Fla. native, led the Lions this season by posting nearly an even-par scoring average (72.7) across 25 rounds played.  During this season he managed a share of the top spot at the Indian Bayou Classic in the fall and posted a low-round of 68 at the Warner Invitational earlier this spring.  Totaling his accomplishments, the junior registered five top-five finishes and six top-10 results in nine events held this year. He was rewarded with an All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team nod, as well as an NCAA South Region Tournament appearance.

Academically, Brothers shined as he amassed a 3.40 grade-point-average, while working towards his degree in Education.

Brothers was joined by a pair of Saint Leo underclassmen as the sophomore duo of Obermeyer and Nicholson-Lewis posted two of the highest GPA’s on the team.

Obermeyer, an attackman for men’s lacrosse team, racked up a team-high 38 goals, and added six assists for 44 points en route to 2012 First Team All-Deep South Conference honors.  The Winter Springs, Fla. native also collected 19 ground balls and five caused turnovers.

In the classroom, Obermeyer was just as stellar as he punctuated his academic year with a 3.62 grade-point-average while aiming for his degree in Marketing.

Nicholson-Lewis, a men’s tennis standout, compiled 31 wins during the season, including 15 singles matches. Seeing time at each of the first three slots, the Cambridge, England native did the majority of his damage at No.2 singles where he posted nine wins. Ranked in the top-35 all season, Nicholson-Lewis also gathered 16 wins with his top flight doubles partner Victor Lozier.

His outstanding numbers saw him earn All-SSC First Team Doubles honors, as well as All-SSC Second Team Singles.

His real highlight, however, came while hitting the books as he finished the academic year with an outstanding 3.73 grade-point-average, the fourth-highest on the 10-person honoree list. He is currently working towards his degree in Sports Business.

All-America voting will begin on Tuesday, May 22.
