  • No. 24-ranked Saint Leo women’s soccer (12-5-0, 6-2-0 SSC) opens its NCAA tournament run on Friday, Nov. 14, against No. 22 North Alabama (14-3-1, 10-2-0 GSC) in a First Round game hosted by Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at Barry’s Buccaneer Field. The winner will advance to a Second Round game against Barry on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 1:00 p.m. on Buccaneer Field.
  • The Lions will be making their sixth NCAA tournament appearance, and their first since the 2011 season. Saint Leo has a 0-4-1 record over its previous five NCAA post-season contests.

  • Saint Leo is coming off a 3-1 loss to No. 10 Rollins College in the Sunshine State Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Semifinals on November 7, in a game hosted by Barry. Sophomore Arielle Kabangu scored the lone Saint Leo goal, off an assist by redshirt freshman Katie Waddell. Junior keeper Laura Carstens charted a career high 11 saves in the loss.
  • Kabangu enters the NCAA tournament as the Lions’ offensive leader with 17 goals and seven assists for 41 points. She is second in the SSC in goals and points, and ranks fifth and sixth respectively in those two categories among NCAA Division II leaders. Waddell is second on the team in scoring with 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points. Sophomore Genevieve Gignac has chipped in four goals this season.
  • Saint Leo will be facing a North Alabama squad led by Division II scoring leader Chloe Richards, who has recorded 26 goals and 57 points this season. UNA is ranked 35th in the nation in scoring this season with 2.17 goals per game, with Richards accounting for 26 of North Alabama’s 39 goals this season.

  • In 2014, the Lions finished with a record-breaking 20-10 season and competed in their first-ever NCAA South Region tournament. The opposing Pirates finished their 2014 season with a notable 21-8 record and competing in a first-ever NCAA postseason game as well.
  • The Lions are led by newly appointed head coach, Missy West, who previously coached for Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. West has a ten year record of coaching experience in the NAIA and the NCAA. The Armstrong Pirates are coached by the returning Fala Bullock for her second season. She advanced in the NCAA Championships for the third time in Armstrong’s program history. The forward has also participated in the XL212 All-Star Classic as a high school senior.
  • The Armstrong State Pirates are returning with four new signees, including the Nicole King, a freshman, who previously earned All-Region honors from her Alpharetta High School
  • The Women’s Basketball team is returning some of their players, including Chachi Guzman a 5-7 junior from Miami, Florida, who last year ranked second in the Sunshine State Conference for assists, managing a 5.5 average per game. This will be her second season with the Lions, where she has previously earned a career-high record of 35 points in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Semifinals against Tampa (3/8/14).

  • The Saint Leo men’s basketball team will be taking on the opposing Huntsville Chargers on November 14. Last year the Lions finished with a 24-9 record after reaching the NCAA Division II South Regional semifinals. The Lions have won four straight season-openers and six of their last seven. The Chargers finished their 2013-2014 season with a record of 15-13 after competing in the Gulf South Conference Men’s Basketball Championships.
  • The Lions are once again led by head coach, Lance Randall for his fourth season. Last year he coached the Lion’s through a record-breaking season, resulting in their third straight NCAA tournament appearance. His record boasts an astonishing first ever Sunshine State Conference regular season men’s basketball title.
  • The Lions are returning six letterwinners and two starters, including Cale Girten, a 6-6 senior from New Prague, Minnesota. In his 2013-2014 season, he started in 32 games and averaged 62 percent from the free throw line. He tallied 4.8 points per game last season from his forward position. He is returning for his fourth season with the Lions.
  • The Huntsville Chargers are also returning several of their players, including Taylor Chapman, a 6-2 senior from Huntsville, Alabama. Last season, he competed in all 28 games, and earned a season-high 12 points against Union (1/23/14). He was also named to the NABS Academic Honors Court.

  • Saint Leo is coming off a landslide 135-64 victory over Rollins. Freshman Hunter Bains earned SSC Swimmer of the Week honors for his efforts, posting a 1:40.97 time for the 200 freestyle.  Freshman Jan Urbaniak clocked a 4:07.21 for his 400 individual medley good for first place.
  • Relays look to improve their National rankings in 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relays
  • The Tampa men narrowly lost its opening meet to Florida Southern 134-128, last time they were in competition.
  • Last time out the Lions defeated Rollins 138-67 as Nicole Weber brought home her second SSC Swimmer of the Week honors this season.  The sophomore recorded a pair of individual firsts and set a school record for the 400 individual medley with a 4:28.11.
  • In its opener, the Tampa women fell to Florida Southern 157.5 to 104.5

  • Ron Foxx, a 6-7 forward from Gainesville, Florida is returning for his second year with the Lions. In his 2013-2014 season, Foxx competed in all 33 games and made an immediate impact of the team, yielding a career-high 21 points in the Lion’s win against Barry (2/8/14). The senior also earned second of the squad and sixth in the Sunshine State Conference for a 79.7 free throw average. Last year, he finished with seven double-doubles.
  • The Lions are also returning senior player, Devin Crisosto, a 6-4 Guard. In his first season with Saint Leo, Crisosto competed in 33 games and made 11 starts. The guard earned a career-high 15 points in the Lion’s victory against USC-Aiken (11/23/14) and managed an impressive free throw average of 71.8, as well as have a noteworthy 96 assists. In his 2013-2014 season, the senior finished with a season-high seven assists against Palm Beach Atlantic (12/20/14).
  • The North Alabama Lions will be taking on Saint Leo for their second matchup of the 2014-2015 season on November 15. They will be returning with head coach Bobby Champagne for his twelfth season. Last year, he coached North Alabama to a record of 23-10. They were third in regular season and won the GSC Tournament. The Lions are returning one of their starters, Nathan Spehr, a 5-10 Senior from Adelaide, Australia. In his 2013-2-14 season, he averaged 12.2 points per game.

  • The Lions also return Melissa Jackson, a 6-0 senior from Lyon, France for her second season for the women’s basketball team. Last year she boasted a 4.5 points per game, as well as finishing eleventh in the Sunshine State Conference with a 2.1 offensive rebounds average per game.
  • The University of Montevallo welcomes four new signees to their women’s basketball team, including Katherine Goldsby, who transferred from her sophomore season at Shelton State.  As a 5-8 guard, she averaged 7.5 points per game, with 3.8 rebounds. The Montevallo Falcons are returning after an 8-17 season.

  • The Lions enter the match after a 3-1 loss to No. 14 Florida Southern.  Three Saint Leo hitter reached double-digit kills as senior Alexa Griffith-Hardy unloaded 16 while Tawni Warren and Britt Sederholm posted 12 and 10, respectively.
  • Senior Yaidimar Santiago has increased her season dig total to a program-record 642 digs.  The libero leads the Sunshine State Conference averaging 5.63 per set.
  • The Tars won a 3-0 contest over Florida Tech, rallying behind the efforts of Shannon McDonough who grounded 13 kills in the contest.  Freshman Kianna Dieudonne totaled eight kills while libero Collyn Welsch led defensively with 18 digs.
  • The Green and Gold will honor its seniors with a pregame ceremony beginning at 7:00 p.m.

  • The Lions are entering the regional after suffering an overtime loss to Florida Tech. The Panther tied the game in regulation with under 10 minutes to play.  Jack Wilson posted the game-winner with 51 seconds left in the first overtime period.
  • Saint Leo is making its third regional appearance and the second in as many seasons.  The Lions have ascended to postseason ranks in 2005 and 2013. In the first round of the 2013 South Regional, Saint Leo tied West Florida as the Argonauts advanced on penalty kicks after laboring through a pair of overtime periods.
  • The Green and Gold is led by Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel who has scored four goals and assisted four goals for a team-leading 12 points. Following is Matthias Katerna with four goals and Alexander Racca with three goals and a pair of assists.
  • Goalkeeper Manuel Schoenhuber has remained stalwart in the net, posting eight shutouts this season while limiting foes to 0.78 goals per game.  Opponents have scored a meager 13 goals against the junior who has recorded a .833 win percentage this season.
  • The Bucs were upset in the Gulf South Conference semifinal, as Christian Brothers fell 2-0 to Shorter.  Shorter used a pair of first half goals to defeat the No. 13 team in the nation and the host of the first round of regional play.
  • CBU is led by Jose Ferraz, who has scored 11 goals through 16 games, posting a team-high 24 points.
