Saint Leo ranked 35th in Learfield Directors’ Cup standings

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University checked in at No. 35 in the second Winter update of the 2016-17 Division II Learfield Directors' Cup standings, which were released Thursday morning by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

The Lions are in the midst of a busy spring with eight teams currently in season.

Of the eight teams, six are currently ranked in the top 30 in their respective ranking systems.

Saint Leo men's tennis holds the highest ranking as they are current No. 3 in the nation in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. The Lions are currently 8-3 on the season, and 3-1 in Sunshine State Conference play.

Saint Leo softball holds the next highest ranking as they recently jumped into the top five of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll, coming in at No. 5. Softball boasts a 28-7 overall record and a 9-3 SSC record.

The women's golf team is also a top 10 team as they are currently No. 6 in the GolfStat Relative Rankings. The squad is coming off a team title at the Babs Steffens Invitational hosted by Stetson University, and junior Amanda Jakobsson claimed the individual title, while senior Marie Coors followed in second place. The Lions have finished no lower than fifth in any of their 2016-17 tournaments while sitting in the top three in their spring tournaments. 

Saint Leo men's lacrosse rounds out the top 20 teams as they rank No. 19 in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches Poll. The team is currently 8-2 on the season, including a signature win over a top 10 opponent to open the season.

Men's golf follows at No. 27 in the GolfStat Relative Rankings, while women's tennis is currently No. 29 in the ITA rankings.

The next Directors' Cup standings update is scheduled for Thursday, May 18, 2017, and will include points from the Division II men's and women's tennis championships. The June 1 update will include men's and women's golf, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, women's rowing, and track and field. The final update will include baseball on June 8.
