SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University received a 25-point bump and moved up to No. 13 in the final Fall update of the 2016-17 Division II Learfield Directors' Cup standings, which were unveiled Thursday morning by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Saint Leo gained the 25 points from its qualification for the 2016 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship. The Lions finished the Fall with 171.00 points in the Directors' Cup standings.
The Lions continue to hold the highest ranking of any Sunshine State Conference program in the Directors' Cup standings. The University of Tampa is the nearest SSC rival in the standings; the Spartans are No. 19 in the standings with 155.00 points. Florida Southern is ranked No. 44 with 112.00 points, followed by Lynn and Florida Tech tied at No. 62 with 75.00 points. Barry University checked in at No. 80 with 64.00 points, with Rollins at No. 100 with 50.00 points and Nova Southeastern at No. 133 with 25.00 points.
A provisional Sunshine State Conference institution, Palm Beach Atlantic University, stands at No. 26 with 147.00 points.
Grand Valley State (Mich.) finished the Fall atop the Directors' Cup standings with 350.00 points, with Colorado School of Mines placing second with 324.00 points. LIU Post (N.Y.) is third with 257.00 points, followed by Alaska-Anchorage (235.50 points) and Shippensburg (233.50 points) in fourth and fifth place
The Learfield Cup Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. The Directors' Cup Committee is reviewing the scoring structure for 2016-17 which will be finalized prior to the winter sports standings.
The next Directors' Cup standings update is scheduled for Thursday, March 16, 2017.
