SAINT LEO, Fla. – In conjunction with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Saint Leo Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be sponsoring a Week of Wishes, from October 4th-October 13th in order to raise money to grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. The national organization has partnered with the Division II sector of the NCAA since 2003 to help children achieve their dreams.
Since the dawn of its partnership with Make A Wish, Division II schools have raised more than $3 million toward granting the wishes of children across the nation. These wishes can serves as a game changer in a child’s fight against their illness, helping them feel better and in some cases, get better.
During the 2012-13 academic year, Saint Leo ranked sixth in the nation for its donations to the foundation, totaling $9,000. During the past three years alone, the Lions’ S.A.A.C. has collected nearly $25,000 for the organization.
Throughout the annual Week of Wishes, the Lions hope to raise money at athletic events and partner with campus clubs in an effort to raise awareness and reach their goal of granting more wishes.
Anyone interested in contributing to the Lions’ efforts should contact Associate Athletic Director Chris Lahey at Christopher.firstname.lastname@example.org or (352) 588-8223. For more information on the Tampa Bay chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation, click here.
